Iron
Pediatrics 4/2016.

Iron 철분
Iron is an essential component of enzymes such as cytochrome and is a part of the hemoglobin and myoglobulin components that carry oxygen to each tissue of the body. When eating foods containing iron, iron is absorbed into blood vessels through the mucous membrane of the intestinal wall with the help of gastric juice and vitamin C.
Iron deficiency can lead to iron deficiency anemia and delayed growth.
When an iron overdose occurs, iron is deposited in the liver, pancreas, and heart, and heart disease, liver disease, and diabetes can occur, and hemoglobin deposition or iron poisoning can occur.
Most of the newborns and infants born in full-term are usually born with a supply of iron from their mother before birth, as much as they can use up to 6 months of age.
So it is common that iron deficiency anemia does not occur until 6 months of age due to lack of iron. Infants who are breastfed should consume more iron than the iron supplied by breast milk from 6 months of age.
For the same reason, the zinc component requires an additional intake of zinc in addition to the zinc supplied from breast milk from 6 months of age. In general, it is recommended to feed infants with minerals and multivitamins containing iron and zinc from 6 months of age. Iron is found in liver, red meat, egg yolk, shellfish, green vegetables, and whole grains.
